“A more sustainable future through a better understanding of acoustics”
Based on the Mach Acoustics book ‘Sustainable Acoustics’, this CPD session demonstrates how to take a green and innovative approach to all aspects of building acoustics. This is a highly illustrative CPD, providing useful ‘rules of thumb’ and presenting new ways to solve the dilemma of natural ventilation – wanting to let fresh air into your building, but not wanting the noise from outside to come in with it!
The presentation provides clear strategies for addressing the following issues:
- Building naturally ventilated buildings on exceptionally noisy sites
- Combining maps and massing drawings to orientate a naturally vented building
- The acoustics of different ventilation methods - cross ventilation, single/ multi ventilation stacks
- Sound insulation methods - high mass vs. light-weight/ sustainable timer structures
- Using Auralisation to determine an accurate performance specification
- Using sustainable materials (including recycled carpet, plastic bottles and car dashboards!) for room acoustics treatments
